Maritime podcast nominated for top award

Big news for a podcast team who created a series to highlight the work of the maritime industry and have been nominated for a prestigious national award.

The Full Ahead Podcast was launched in May 2025 when I teamed up with former Irish Sea shipping chief executive Alistair Eagles with the aim of exploring and explaining how the maritime industry works, how it is changing and the opportunities that exist within it.

The Maritime Foundation, which champions the role maritime plays in the prosperity, security and sustainability of the UK, has listed the podcast in the annual Maritime Media Awards which are held in November.

The Maritime Media Awards continue to highlight the UK’s best journalists, authors, filmmakers, digital creators and others who have excelled in creating greater public understanding of the maritime environment,” Maritime Foundation Chair Richard Clayton said. “I am positively encouraged by this year’s nominees, and our judges are working hard to select the best in each category. The Maritime Foundation is looking forward to celebrating this year’s winners.

The Full Ahead Podcast, which is currently sponsored by Stena Line, is listed in the ‘Best Use of Digital Media’ category.

We’re delighted!

In just 18 months we’ve built an audience in over 80 countries and have been lucky enough to meet a wide range of guests, often on location. Being able to go behind the scenes has helped us tell their story to a wide and growing audience – who seem to love it.

Produced fortnightly, thirty episodes covering innovation, training, historic ships, careers and more have proved popular. The team have travelled to Sweden and Finland to capture interviews with leading figures within the industry. A new YouTube channel has enabled the stories to be seen by a new audience

“During the latest series we’ve visited the famous Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, gone aboard Scotland’s newest ferry and attended one of Europe’s largest maritime conferences held on the autonomous Åland Islands between Finland and Sweden,” Alistair Eagles said. “It’s the people that make the podcast work – whether it’s the cadets at Fleetwood Nautical College or interviewing the Bristol Channel’s first female tug captain, they are always keen to share their experiences with us and we’re only too pleased to hear them.”

The Maritime Media Awards will be held on Tuesday, 10th November at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in London.
