Invitation to Apple HQ to hear about the future of podcasting
I was delighted to be among 80 or so people invited to attend the PRX & AudioUK Podcast Creator Summit at the Apple Offices in Battersea.
At a time when podcasts are still very much in demand as the latest Rajar listening figures released 24 hours earlier showed, the industry is growing.
As part of this growth there’s a healthy debate over what a podcast actually is; some say it’s a video, others it’s pure audio. My view is it can be both - it just depends what your target audience would like to receive and where they are likely to be.
Apple Podcasts were ideal hosts and I made some brilliant contacts which should enable future podcasts to be promoted to reach the audience they deserve. AudioUK are shouting loud and clear for the industry to be recognised more widely by sponsors and government as well as offering some brilliant training resources.
My takeaway thoughts? It’s not as lonely as I thought and it’s certainly great to collaborate. Quality matters - anyone can have a go (do!) but if you want to avoid the frustration that can occur, get in touch for advice or a teach-in. And finally, ‘what is a podcast?’ was a recurring query and it is still causing debate in the days after the event. My observation is, the joy of podcasting as part of a wider communications effort is what makes it exciting; it can be what you want it to be.
I had an amazing time and have come back full of ideas for new collaborations. If this is something you would be interested in considering get in touch before someone else has the same idea.
